TOPIC 1: NZ’S CULTURAL ENVIRONMENT
Introduction
This training programme is about running training for learners who are from different cultures. At the end of this on-line course there is an assessment for unit standard 7091.
The assessment requires that you have an understanding of three different cultures – your own culture and two other cultures. One of the three cultures is to be Maori culture.
You are asked to relate your knowledge of cultures to the learning environment and explain what practices will enhance learning and in contrast, what could impede learning.

In this first topic we will start by looking at what a culture is and then, what characterises a culture.
